Body filler, putty, ISOPON, Bondo® etc. are all very similar. However, the difference is that each of them focuses on a certain type of damage.
A lot of our customers ask, "Do I need filler?" The answer depends on what kind of result you're after.
As noted in the other help desk articles, paint is not designed to be a filler. In fact, it's the opposite. We design paints to lay down as thinly as possible. There will be a degree of filling that happens as you apply layers of paint, but it’s minimal. If your damage includes a dent or divot, you need a filler to bring the surface back to flush with the surrounding area. Some of our customers are looking for a "good from a distance solution" so having a small dent or divot is acceptable. For those of us looking for a more complete solution, a filler is needed.
The most common filler we sell is the ISOPON Scratch and Stone Chip Filler.
This is the ideal solution for 90% of touch up jobs. The product is easy to use and is specifically designed for the small and most common touch up repairs. If your touch up is larger that what you'd call a "scratch or stone chip" then you may want to consider something like the ISOPON Multi-Purpose Body Filler.
This product will help with dents, dings, and deep scratches. If you're ordering an aerosol spray kit from us, then you should be considering this over the small tube above. Of course, there are still more choices available other than this. We have Alloy Wheel Filler, Plastic Bumper Filler and more. Please visit our accessories page for more information on them.
